Anthony Joshua Clinches Dominant Victory Over Wallin in Riyadh Showdown

In Riyadh on Saturday, Anthony Joshua, the former world heavyweight champion, displayed his superior strength against Otto Wallin, securing a technical knockout in their non-title bout after five rounds. Employing controlled aggression, the British boxer handed Wallin his first career defeat inside the distance, prompting the Swedish fighter’s corner to withdraw him from the one-sided contest at the end of the fifth round.

This triumph marked Joshua’s third victory in 2023, following a unanimous decision win against Jermaine Franklin Jr in April and a seventh-round stoppage success against Robert Helenius in August. With this result, the 34-year-old Joshua extended his professional record to 27 wins and three defeats.

Speaking to DAZN, Joshua downplayed the significance of the victory, describing it as “just another fight.” He expressed respect for Wallin and emphasized the importance of achieving victory by any means necessary.

From the outset, Joshua dominated the match, causing Wallin’s nose to bleed in the first round. Despite Wallin having previously gone the distance with WBC champion Tyson Fury, he struggled to endure Joshua’s powerful punches and entered the fifth round on shaky legs. Ultimately, Wallin’s corner made a compassionate decision to spare him further punishment, concluding a night that also featured Joseph Parker’s unanimous points decision win over former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
