‘Portable, an unrepentant rascal,’ Ogun slams singer for attacking officials

The Ogun State Government has strongly criticized Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for attacking officials of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Sango Ota.

In a statement on Friday, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who has repeatedly assaulted government officials without provocation. He labeled the latest attack as “unacceptable and barbaric,” vowing that the state would take legal action.

Akinmade further noted that Portable’s disruptive behavior has become unbearable, causing panic and disorder in the area. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that Ogun State upholds the Omoluabi ethos—values of decency and respect.

Governor Abiodun condemned the attack and reiterated his administration’s stance on enforcing the law regardless of an individual’s social status or influence. He assured that anyone found violating state laws would face the full consequences.

Meanwhile, nine of Portable’s associates were arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on Thursday for allegedly assaulting officials from the Ota Zonal Planning Office. The accused, aged between 19 and 28, faced five charges, including felony, assault, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
