Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested two suspects in separate child trafficking cases and rejected a ₦1M bribe attempt.
According to a statement on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the first suspect, 32-year-old Confidence Odoh, was arrested on February 4, 2025, for allegedly abducting a three-year-old boy, Nzubechi Udodiri, from their compound in Owerri West LGA. The child has been rescued and reunited with his parents.
In another case, operatives conducting a routine stop-and-search along the Owerri-Aba Expressway apprehended 45-year-old Eze Chika with a suspected stolen four-year-old child. She initially claimed to be the child’s mother but later confessed to buying the child from a trafficking syndicate in Aba for ₦1.8M.
In an attempt to evade arrest, Chika offered the officers a ₦1M bribe, which they rejected. Investigations are ongoing to identify the child’s biological parents and dismantle the trafficking network.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant, monitor their children, and report any suspicious activities.
