Despite a resilient effort, Everton failed to find an equaliser and remain stuck lower down the standings, facing an uphill battle in the final weeks of the season.
Elsewhere at the top of the table, Liverpool maintain a commanding lead with 79 points from 33 games. Arsenal follow with 67 points, while Manchester City sit third with 61 points — just one ahead of Chelsea. Nottingham Forest complete the top five, tied on points with Chelsea but trailing on goal difference.
