Hoodlums suspected to be cultists have allegedly butchered a middle-aged farmer, Itoro Jimmy Umanah, in Udianga Enem, a community within Etim Ekpo Local Government Area (LGA) in Akwa Ibom State. The chilling murder took place last weekend, with the victim, his wife, and three children asleep at the time of the attack.

🕯️ Details of the Attack

According to the victim’s wife, Mrs. Jimmy Umanah, the attackers arrived at around 10:00 PM when her husband was resting on the veranda after a long day’s work. The hoodlums called him out, and despite his efforts to shout for help, no one came to his aid.

“My husband shouted and raised the alarm, but suddenly his voice stopped, and I fled into the bush with my children,” Mrs. Umanah recounted.

In the morning, neighbors discovered Umanah’s dismembered body abandoned in a pool of blood. The gruesome scene left the community in shock.

🛑 Community’s Response and Police Investigation

The Village Chairman, Chief Lawson Akpanowon, confirmed the incident and reported it to the Utu Etim Ekpo Police Division. Police officers visited the crime scene and observed the dismembered body.

“The police team came and saw the body cut into pieces. We were asked to work together and carry out internal investigations before getting permission to bury the deceased,” Akpanowon said.

🕵️‍♂️ Ongoing Investigation

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the murder and assured that investigations were underway. The police have urged the public to cooperate as they work to uncover the perpetrators and the motive behind the attack.

“Investigation into the incident is ongoing,” DSP John stated.
