Israel Kills 60 in Gaza Amid Escalating Violence; Russia, China, UK Reject US-Israeli Aid Plan

Israeli military operations in Gaza have led to the deaths of at least 60 Palestinians since the early hours of today, according to medical reports. The majority of these casualties, including 45 people, were in northern Gaza, particularly in the Jabalia refugee camp. This surge in violence follows a wave of deadly airstrikes on hospitals in Gaza.

In the face of this escalating conflict, Russia, China, and the UK have strongly opposed a US-Israeli proposal aimed at controlling the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The three countries have called for Israel to lift its two-month blockade on the region, urging instead for the resumption of aid through established UN channels. The proposal was seen by these nations as potentially politicizing humanitarian efforts.

Meanwhile, indirect ceasefire talks continue in Doha, Qatar, where US, Egyptian, and Qatari officials are attempting to mediate between Israeli and Hamas representatives. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed cautious optimism for progress in these negotiations, particularly in securing the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza since October 2023.

At the same time, tensions in the region persist, as Israel has also faced missile threats from Yemen, with its military intercepting a missile aimed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. The threat led to air traffic suspension in the area.

As the international community responds to the ongoing crisis, questions remain about the effectiveness and ethics of the proposed aid distribution plan and the long-term resolution of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
