Flick on Rashford, Diaz: “Fantastic Players” Amid Barcelona Transfer Speculation
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has fueled speculation about a summer move for Marcus Rashford or Luis Diaz, calling the Premier League duo “fantastic players” during a press conference on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of Barça’s final La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao, Flick was asked about the club’s reported interest in the Manchester United and Liverpool forwards. While he was careful not to name transfer targets, he admitted admiration for both players.
“Normally, I don’t want to speak about players who are not in my team,” Flick said. “But of course, both of them are fantastic players. I like them, and we will see what happens.”
The comment comes just days after Barcelona sporting director Deco also praised Rashford and Diaz on Spanish radio, further stoking transfer rumors.
Barcelona’s Transfer Outlook
Despite Raphinha recently signing a contract extension through 2028, Barcelona are reportedly searching for another left-wing option. Diaz, a regular starter at Liverpool, and Rashford, who spent part of the season on loan at Aston Villa, are seen as potential additions.
However, a move for either would require serious financial commitment. Luis Diaz is valued at around €80 million, a hefty sum for a club still grappling with La Liga’s financial fair play restrictions.
This season, Barça struggled with player registrations and had to seek court approval to field Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to delayed paperwork caused by budget issues.
Flick Speaks on Ansu Fati, Looks Ahead
Flick also addressed Ansu Fati’s uncertain future, with reports linking the winger to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
“That’s not my decision. He has a contract and will make the decision,” Flick said. “If he wants to talk with me, I’m open to it. But it’s his choice.”
Flick, who recently renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2027, led the club to a domestic treble this season—winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. Still, he’s already preparing for next season’s challenges.
“Next season might be tougher, but we want to improve. We know our potential and we have to keep working at this level,” he said.
