Gunmen Invade Kubwa Estate in Abuja, Abduct Two Residents During Midnight Raid

ABUJA — Residents of Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, were thrown into chaos in the early hours of Monday as a heavily armed group of kidnappers invaded the estate, held residents hostage for over an hour, and abducted two individuals.

The terrifying incident reportedly occurred between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., as the attackers overpowered the local vigilante team. According to eyewitness accounts, the kidnappers abducted a man and a woman, although the woman was later mysteriously released and found within the estate at daybreak.

“Those guys were well armed. They came around midnight and subdued the vigilance group. The Police arrived around 1:00 a.m., and there was a gun battle that lasted for about 30 minutes,” a resident told Vanguard.

The resident also made a passionate appeal for government intervention, requesting the repair of the estate’s access road and the establishment of a nearby police station to improve emergency response time.

Police and Army Rescue One Victim, Hunt for the Second

Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Command said its anti-kidnapping squad, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, has successfully rescued one of the two abducted victims.

The operation took place in the Byazhin area of Kubwa, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the second hostage.

“A combined team of police operatives, army personnel, and vigilantes have launched a search-and-rescue mission to secure the safe return of the remaining victim,” the statement from the command read.
