Tragedy in Lagos as 3 Die, 11 Rescued in Ikorodu Building Collapse

Ikorodu, Lagos – May 28, 2025

A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Tuesday afternoon in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, leaving three people dead and 11 others rescued from the debris, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Victims and Rescue Efforts

The deceased include two adult males and a teenage girl, all of whom were trapped for hours beneath the rubble following the 2 p.m. collapse.

LASEMA confirmed that 11 men were rescued alive and treated by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.

Search and Rescue Ongoing

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that emergency protocols were activated swiftly after distress calls were received.

“LASEMA’s Lion, Tiger, and Eagle response teams were dispatched immediately to the scene. We deployed heavy-duty equipment including excavators and floodlights to support night operations,” said Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu.

Multiple agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Police, are collaborating on the ongoing search and recovery mission.

Cause of Collapse Still Unknown

As of the time of this report, the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, and investigations are expected to follow once rescue operations are completed.
