Fallen Petrol Tanker Explodes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ignites Nearby Vehicles
— FRSC Confirms Explosion at NASFAT U-Turn Axis, Rescue Team Deployed

A petrol-laden tanker has fallen and exploded on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing a massive fire outbreak and damaging nearby vehicles.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State confirmed the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the NASFAT U-Turn section of the highway, a known traffic hotspot.

According to the FRSC Sector Command, the rescue team was swiftly dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and prevent further casualties or traffic disruptions.

“Our personnel are already on-site, and safety efforts are ongoing to contain the situation and manage the resulting gridlock,” the FRSC said.

The fire reportedly spread to multiple nearby vehicles, though casualty figures are yet to be confirmed at the time of this report.

Safety Advisory Issued

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as emergency responders work to douse the fire and clear the wreckage.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are investigating the cause of the tanker fall, which some suspect may be linked to excessive speed or mechanical failure. Tanker accidents on Nigerian highways continue to pose a serious risk, particularly on major corridors like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

More updates will follow as rescue operations continue and a clearer assessment of damages is made.
