Trump Threatens 10% Tariff on Countries Supporting BRICS Bloc

Trump Vows Extra 10% Tariff on Countries ‘Aligning’ with BRICS Bloc

📍 U.S. President Labels BRICS Policies “Anti-American” in Latest Trade Threat

Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a sharp warning to countries aligning with the BRICS economic bloc, vowing to impose an additional 10% tariff on any nation supporting what he called the group’s “anti-American” policies.

The threat was posted on Trump’s Truth Social account and is his latest broadside in escalating trade tensions as BRICS expands its global influence.

“Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote on Sunday.

🌍 BRICS Expansion Draws U.S. Scrutiny

The BRICS bloc — originally composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — expanded in 2024 to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The expansion has alarmed U.S. officials who view it as an attempt to create a geopolitical counterweight to the West.

Trump’s statement appears to be aimed not just at long-time U.S. rivals like Russia and China but also at traditional allies that may be drifting towards BRICS for economic cooperation or energy security.

🏛️ No Exceptions to Tariff Threat, Says Trump

While no specific countries were named, the implication is clear: any country — friend or foe — that engages economically with BRICS could face new U.S. trade barriers.

Trump’s hardline stance is consistent with his “America First” trade policies during his first term, which saw major tariff battles with China, the EU, and North American partners.

Analysts warn this new threat could disrupt diplomatic relations and global supply chains at a time when global inflation and energy prices remain volatile.

🔍 Geopolitical Reactions Await

There has been no immediate official response from BRICS member states, though sources suggest several leaders are expected to address Trump’s tariff threat at the upcoming BRICS economic summit scheduled later this month in São Paulo, Brazil.

Observers also note that Trump’s approach may complicate existing trade negotiations with India and Brazil, which have been balancing relations between the U.S. and China.
