Why I Can’t Forget Former President Buhari – Farida Waziri

Abuja — Former Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Farida Waziri, has paid an emotional tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, revealing a personal story that cemented her deep respect for him.

In her heartfelt message released on Wednesday in Abuja, Waziri described Buhari’s passing as a loss that resonates deeply across Nigeria, not just for his public service, but for the values he consistently lived by.

“His life was shaped by discipline, defined by incorruptibility, and anchored in an unwavering commitment to truth,” she said.

A Leader Who Walked the Talk

Waziri recalled Buhari’s early days as a military ruler and his later years as a democratically elected president, describing his anti-corruption crusade as consistent and uncompromising throughout his leadership.

“He was resolute in his pursuit of integrity in public service, even when it meant walking a lonely road,” she said. “His modest lifestyle and refusal to exploit public office spoke volumes.”

Buhari Righted a Wrong

Sharing a personal experience, Waziri revealed how Buhari corrected an injustice regarding her retirement rank, ensuring she was rightfully elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) — an act she described as emblematic of his sense of justice and fairness.

“In a system where justice is often elusive, President Buhari stood firm for what was right,” she stated.

Legacy of Integrity

Waziri concluded her message by praising Buhari’s unwavering stance on ethics and justice, stating that his legacy will endure through generations as a soldier, statesman, and man of integrity.

“May history remember him kindly. May his soul find peaceful repose.”
