Trump to Decide on Joining Iran Conflict Within Two Weeks Amid Nuclear Fears

US President weighs military action as negotiations remain possible

US President Donald Trump has revealed that a decision on whether the United States will join Israel in its ongoing strikes on Iran will be made “within the next two weeks,” citing a remaining possibility for negotiations to resolve the escalating conflict.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read a statement on Thursday, noting that while speculation around US involvement has surged, diplomatic options are still on the table.

“Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Trump said.

The statement comes amid rising tensions following Trump’s recent remarks branding Iran’s leader an “easy target” and reaffirming that Tehran will “never have a nuclear weapon.” However, the announcement may also signal a cooling period for possible diplomacy.

Iran Could Build Nuclear Bomb in Weeks – White House

Leavitt added that Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within “a couple of weeks” if it chooses to proceed.

“Iran has all that it needs to achieve a nuclear weapon. All they need is a decision from the supreme leader,” she warned.

This revelation underscores the urgency behind Trump’s deliberations.

Talks or Tensions? Mixed Signals Emerge

Trump suggested on Wednesday that Iran had requested to send officials to Washington for nuclear negotiations—a claim that Iran promptly denied. Despite this, Leavitt confirmed that communication between the two countries continues.

“If there’s a chance for diplomacy, the president’s always going to grab it,” Leavitt said. “But he’s not afraid to use strength as well.”

While declining to give details, she confirmed reports of ongoing contact between Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s Foreign Minister.

Trump Faces Divided Support at Home

The president met with top security advisors for a third time in as many days in the White House Situation Room on Thursday, carefully weighing military options—including potential strikes on Iran’s fortified Fordo nuclear facility, which only US “bunker buster” bombs could destroy.

Despite backing Israel’s military efforts, Trump remains cautious.

“I may do it, I may not do it,” he said earlier this week.

Key figures in the Trump-aligned “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement—such as Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson—have voiced opposition to military involvement, citing Trump’s previous promises to end “forever wars.”

Still, Leavitt urged Americans to “trust in President Trump.”
