Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the white wedding of his nephew and global Afrobeats star, David Adeleke (Davido).
Davido had earlier confirmed that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, would hold their white wedding in Miami, Florida, this August, during an April 8, 2025, interview on The Breakfast Club.
The trip was officially confirmed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in a statement issued Tuesday in response to growing concerns from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over Adeleke’s prolonged absence.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed said.
He added that the governor had not taken any formal vacation since assuming office in November 2022, and described the current trip as “short,” stressing that the governor remains in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing the state’s governance.
“For this current trip, the governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions,” Rasheed said.
He also extended an invitation to members of the opposition to “share in the joy” of the family occasion, either physically or virtually.
However, the Osun State chapter of the APC criticized the governor’s absence, describing it as “abnormal” and questioned whether Adeleke had constitutionally transmitted power to his deputy during the period of absence.
In a statement signed by APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi, the party said:
“The question being asked in hushed tones in public places, commercial buses, and among motorcycle riders is: where is the governor? Who has been holding fort for him during his absence for the past two weeks?”
The APC demanded clarification on whether the deputy governor was officially empowered to take over governance duties in line with the constitution.
