Tinubu Launches Personal Income Tax Calculator Ahead of 2026 Reforms

Ahmad August 22, 2025
President-Bola-Ahmed-Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced a Personal Income Tax calculator designed to help Nigerians estimate how the recently signed tax reforms will affect their earnings when they take effect in January 2026.

In a post shared on his official X account on Friday, the President explained that the calculator allows individuals to compare their current tax payments with the rates under the new laws. He said the initiative is meant to promote transparency, fairness, and understanding among citizens.

According to Tinubu, the reforms aim to establish a fair and progressive tax system—one that shields low-income earners, avoids punishing poverty, and simplifies compliance for all taxpayers.

“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable. With the new tax laws taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and redistribution in our economy,” Tinubu said.

He further explained that the tax calculator demonstrates how the new reforms protect low-income groups, ensure progressivity, and make compliance easier, ultimately building a more transparent tax structure for Nigerians.

The President urged citizens to embrace the changes and believe in the country’s future:

“Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community.”

The Personal Income Tax calculator is available online at fiscalreforms.ng.
