Victor Boniface Joins Werder Bremen on Loan from Bayer Leverkusen Until 2026

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has officially joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, in a deal that runs until June 2026.

The 24-year-old completed his medicals and finalized all formalities before sealing the move, with part of his salary expected to be covered under the agreement.

Boniface, who joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2023, played a pivotal role in their Bundesliga-winning campaign, earning praise for his physicality, link-up play, and sharp eye for goal.

Werder Bremen coach Horst Steffen expressed optimism about the signing, stating:

“I’m certain he can be a very important factor for us this season.”

The move comes after several transfer sagas surrounding Boniface. In January, Saudi club Al Nassr reportedly tabled a €70 million ($81 million) bid, but the deal collapsed after the team opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead.

In August, the forward was linked with AC Milan, but that transfer fell through after he reportedly failed a medical, despite an agreement in principle with Leverkusen.

Boniface is now the latest player from Leverkusen’s title-winning squad to depart this summer, following the exits of Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong, and manager Xabi Alonso.
