Liverpool’s new record signing Alexander Isak has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Newcastle United after sealing a British-record £125 million ($167 million) move on transfer deadline day.

The 25-year-old striker signed a six-year contract with Arne Slot’s Premier League champions, ending a transfer saga that saw him sit out pre-season and Newcastle’s opening league fixtures while pushing for a move.

From Hero to Target of Fan Anger

Once a St James’ Park favourite, Isak faced criticism from Newcastle fans, who chanted “We don’t care about Isak” during their goalless draw against Leeds, accusing him of abandoning the club.

Yet, his impact at Newcastle remains significant. Isak netted 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances and famously scored in the League Cup final victory, securing Newcastle’s first major trophy in 56 years.

Isak’s Farewell Message

In an emotional statement on Instagram, the Swedish international said:

“I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together. Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey. Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”

A New Chapter at Liverpool

Isak now joins a Liverpool side looking to build on their Premier League title-winning campaign under Arne Slot, with fans hopeful he can replicate his prolific form at Anfield.
