Harry Kane Shines with Brace as Bayern Munich Defeat Chelsea 3-1 in Champions League Opener

Harry Kane Scores Twice as Bayern Beat Chelsea 3-1 in Champions League Clash

Harry Kane continued his red-hot form with a brace as Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea 3-1 in their UEFA Champions League opener in Munich on Wednesday.

Bayern took the lead after 20 minutes when Michael Olise’s cross forced Trevoh Chalobah into an own goal. Just seven minutes later, Kane won and converted a penalty to double the advantage.

Chelsea responded almost immediately, with Cole Palmer finishing off a slick counter-attack just two minutes later to pull one back. However, Kane restored Bayern’s control in the second half, capitalizing on a poor back-pass from Malo Gusto to slot home his second of the night.

The England captain now has 10 goals in just six games this season, and admitted that facing Premier League opponents gives him added motivation.

Meanwhile, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer celebrated his 100th Champions League win, joining an elite group behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Thomas Müller, and Iker Casillas.

The victory extended Bayern’s remarkable record of winning every Champions League opener since 2003, a run of 22 straight matches.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca brought Cole Palmer and several others back into the starting XI after resting them in a disappointing 2-2 league draw against Brentford. While the Blues started strongly, Bayern’s clinical edge proved decisive.

Kane, who was substituted to a standing ovation late in the game, highlighted once again why Bayern invested heavily in him. Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson made his Champions League debut off the bench but could not change the outcome.

With this win, Bayern underline their status as early contenders for the Champions League crown, while Chelsea face questions about consistency under Maresca.
