Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing it as a tragic and painful loss.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike condoled with the management and staff of Arise TV, noting that her passing is not only a loss to the station but to the Nigerian media and the nation at large.

“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad,” the minister said.

Wike assured that the police will conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Maduagwu was brought to Maitama General Hospital dead at about 4:30am on Monday. A preliminary medical report, she said, would be submitted to aid police investigations.

The minister also prayed for the repose of her soul, while extending his condolences to Arise TV Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, the media organization, and the bereaved family.

“It is my prayer that God in His infinite mercies will accept her soul and give her family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Wike added.

The death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu has sparked grief across Nigeria’s media industry, with colleagues and viewers describing her as a brilliant journalist whose career was cut short too soon.
