Awujale Bid: Ruling House Rejects KWAM1’s Application

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally dismissed the Awujale throne application submitted by Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM1, declaring his lineage claim invalid.
In a letter dated December 11, 2025, the ruling house stated that extensive investigations failed to establish any genealogical link between Ayinde and the Jadiara Royal House or the wider Fusengbuwa lineage, which is entitled to produce the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
Signed by the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, the letter faulted the certification of the lineage form submitted by Ayinde. The document was certified by Adetayo Abayomi Oduneye, whom the ruling house described as a “purported family unit head” with no recognised status within the Jadiara Royal House.
The ruling house also noted irregularities in the submission timeline, pointing out that the form was certified on December 8—two days before Ayinde signed it on December 10—calling it a “presigned” document that undermines its credibility.
“Our extensive investigation has not revealed any proof of your membership of the Jadiara Royal House or the Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” the letter said.
The ruling house emphasized that Oduneye lacked the authority to verify any royal lineage, stressing that he has “no locus standi” to authenticate documents on behalf of the family.
“Consequently, the completed linkage lineage form is hereby declared null, void, and of no consequence. Your claim to membership of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is rejected,” the statement added.
Background to the Dispute
The rejection comes amid intense scrutiny over the succession process following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July after a historic 65-year reign.
Earlier on Thursday, key members of the Fusengbuwa family publicly distanced themselves from KWAM1, insisting he has no family ties to their royal lineage.
The musician, who holds the title Olori Omooba of Ijebuland under the Fidipote Ruling House, shocked many when he submitted his lineage form after receiving a special five-day extension beyond the official December 5 deadline.
His application claimed descent from the Setejoye unit of the Jadiara Royal House through his father, Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe, and was endorsed by Oduneye.
However, leaders of the Jadiara and Bubiade family units have repeatedly denied knowing Ayinde or his father, insisting that neither belong to their ancestry.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House held an emergency meeting on Thursday to address the controversy and reaffirm its position on the matter.
