Spanish giants Atlético de Madrid have completed the signing of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A side Atalanta, with the forward penning a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030.
The La Liga club confirmed the transfer in a statement published on its official website on Monday, hailing the 28-year-old attacker following his impressive spell in Italy.
“Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have agreed on the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed for us until 30 June 2030,” the club announced.
Medical Completed, Contract Signed
Atlético revealed that Lookman successfully passed his medical examination at the Vithas-Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Centre at the Arturo Soria University Hospital in Madrid.
He was later received at the club’s headquarters at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where he was welcomed by Chief Executive Officer Miguel Ángel Gil before officially signing his contract.
“Welcome, Lookman!” the club added.
From London to La Liga
Born in Wandsworth, London, on October 20, 1997, Lookman rose through the youth ranks of Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, making his professional debut for Charlton in November 2015.
His career has since spanned several top European leagues, with stints at Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City, before joining Atalanta in the summer of 2022.
Stellar Atalanta Spell
Lookman enjoyed the most productive period of his career at Atalanta, where he became one of Serie A’s most feared attackers.
In 137 appearances, he recorded 55 goals and 27 assists, playing a key role in the club’s historic 2023/24 UEFA Europa League triumph.
The highlight of that campaign came in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, where Lookman scored a stunning hat-trick in a 3–0 victory, handing the German side their only defeat of the season and securing Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy.
Super Eagles Star
At international level, Lookman initially represented England at youth level, winning the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, before switching allegiance to Nigeria.
He made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in March 2022 and has since earned 41 caps, scoring 11 goals for the national team.
