The Airport Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Precious Onudhona, over an alleged romance scam involving N48.5 million.

The suspect, a native of Delta State, was apprehended on February 2, 2026, while attempting to board a flight from Lagos to Asaba, following what police described as actionable intelligence.

Suspect Linked to Online Romance Syndicate

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said operatives of the Anti-Fraud Unit carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to curb cybercrime within the aviation environment.

He disclosed that investigations revealed the suspect joined a fraud syndicate in 2023 that specialised in romance-related scams.

“The syndicate targeted unsuspecting victims through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, using false identities and deceptive narratives,” Adeola said.

Fake Identity and Banking Platform Used

According to police findings, Onudhona allegedly posed as “Travis Kevin,” a white American medical doctor, to gain the trust of victims.

He reportedly created a fake banking domain showing fictitious account balances, which was used to solicit funds from victims under the pretext of quick repayment.

The suspect also claimed the money was needed for feeding and medical supplies after pretending to have sustained injuries in the line of duty.

Payments were allegedly received through cryptocurrency transactions.

Police Order Full Investigation

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a comprehensive investigation to uncover other members of the syndicate.

“A thorough investigation must be conducted to ensure justice is served and that all accomplices are identified and apprehended,” she said.

She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to keeping airport facilities free from criminal activities.

Suspect to Face Interpol Probe

The police spokesperson added that the suspect will be transferred to the Interpol Section for further investigation and prosecution.

The arrest follows a similar case earlier this month involving a 20-year-old suspect accused of defrauding foreign victims of about N1.25 billion.
