Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has officially broken his silence over his uncertain future, declaring that leaving St James’ Park is “in the best interests of everyone.”
The Swedish forward, who finished as the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League last season, has been left out of Newcastle’s pre-season and their opening 0-0 draw at Aston Villa.
Liverpool are pushing hard to sign the 25-year-old, but their £110 million bid was rejected, with Newcastle demanding up to £150 million – a figure that would set a new British transfer record.
Isak Speaks Out
Isak released a strongly-worded statement on Instagram on Tuesday after skipping the Professional Footballers’ Association awards, despite being named in the Premier League Team of the Year.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors,” he wrote.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”
Newcastle Responds
Newcastle quickly responded with a statement late Tuesday, expressing disappointment at Isak’s comments but reiterating that he remains under contract.
“We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening,” the club wrote. “Alex remains under contract, and no club official has ever promised he could leave this summer. We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to them.”
The club added that Isak is “part of the Newcastle family” and would be welcomed back if he decides to rejoin his teammates.
Liverpool’s Transfer Push
Liverpool, who have already spent £300 million rebuilding their squad after last season’s title triumph, remain keen on signing Isak as they seek to replace Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, following their departures, and fill the gap left by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances, including a historic winner against Liverpool in the League Cup final, which ended the Magpies’ 70-year wait for domestic silverware.
With the transfer saga intensifying, all eyes remain on whether Liverpool will return with a record-breaking bid – or if Newcastle can convince their star striker to stay.
