Arsenal Hijack Tottenham’s Move, Set to Sign Eberechi Eze in £60m Deal

Arsenal are on the verge of completing a sensational £60m transfer for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.

The Gunners have moved quickly to secure the 27-year-old England international following concerns over Kai Havertz’s recent knee injury. According to The Athletic, Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace, with the deal worth around £68m — the same amount Spurs were prepared to pay.

This potential signing marks a full-circle moment for Eze, who was released by Arsenal as a 13-year-old before rising to prominence at Palace.

Spurs Miss Out

Tottenham were confident of landing Eze this summer, but Arsenal’s sudden intervention has left their north London rivals frustrated. While Spurs ended last season in a disappointing 17th place despite winning the Europa League final, Arsenal finished runners-up to Liverpool and are determined to strengthen their title challenge.

Palace’s Stand

Despite mounting speculation, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner insists Eze remains committed. He featured for 84 minutes in Palace’s recent draw against Chelsea and trained ahead of their Conference League play-off clash with Fredrikstad.

“Many were surprised that Marc [Guehi] and Ebs started against Chelsea, but they are committed to the team,” Glasner said. “As long as they are here, they will give 100 percent for Crystal Palace.”

Eze’s current contract runs until 2027, while captain Marc Guehi — also linked with Liverpool — has a deal expiring next year.

What’s Next?

If the deal is finalized, Eze will become one of Arsenal’s marquee signings of the summer as Mikel Arteta looks to add depth and creativity to his midfield.
