Club Brugge Manager to Meet Onyedika After Red Card in AC Milan Defeat

Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen has announced plans to hold a private meeting with Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika following his red card in the team’s 3-1 loss to AC Milan on Tuesday. Onyedika received his marching orders just five minutes before halftime after a rash tackle on Tijjani Reijnders, marking his second red card in his last four European appearances.

Hayen Calls for Reflection

Reflecting on the incident, Hayen noted that the team was taken aback by the referee’s decision. “We were, of course, surprised that Raphael got red. I think we can talk about bad luck – and unfortunately, the decision fell to our disadvantage,” he remarked after the game.

Hayen emphasized the club’s supportive approach toward players facing challenges. “We will have a calm talk about it on Wednesday. In that area, we are a warm club that does not let players fall. We will try to find a solution, but this kind of error needs to be worked on by Raphael,” he added.

Club Brugge’s European Struggles

The red card compounded the challenges for the Belgian Pro League champions, who struggled to recover in the match against AC Milan. Onyedika’s international compatriot, Samuel Chukwueze, played a role in Milan’s victory, assisting one of the goals after coming on as a substitute.

As Club Brugge looks to regroup, Hayen’s upcoming discussion with Onyedika aims to address the disciplinary lapses that have affected the team’s performance on the European stage.
