Court to Deliver Judgment on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Suspension Case June 27
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed June 27, 2025, to deliver the final judgment in the lawsuit filed by suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is contesting her suspension from the Nigerian Senate, which she claims was unfair and politically motivated. The Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, suspended her earlier this year over alleged misconduct.
The case, initially handled by Justice Obiorah Egwuatu, was reassigned to Justice Nyako after Egwuatu stepped down.
The National Assembly, the Senate, the Senate President, and Senator Neda Imasuem—Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct—are listed as defendants in the suit.
⚖️ Courtroom Proceedings
When the case resumed on Monday, May 13, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lead counsel, Jibrin Okutekpa (SAN), confirmed they had complied with the court’s directive to submit all relevant documents.
On the other hand, legal representatives for the Senate and Senate President—Paul Daudu and Ekwo Ejembi—also submitted their filings but raised an allegation that the plaintiff had violated a court order.
According to the defense, Akpoti-Uduaghan posted a satirical apology to Senate President Akpabio on her Facebook page and circulated it in national newspapers on March 27, despite an earlier order restricting such actions.
In response, her other lawyer, Michael Numan, stated that the defense’s motion for contempt had been received. He added that the plaintiff had earlier filed a counter-motion, accusing the defendants of also disobeying court orders.
Numan denied any wrongdoing by his client, saying:
“The alleged statement has no connection to the plaintiff. There’s no direct link between Senator Natasha and the supposed contemptuous post.”
