Defending champions of the National Youth Games (NYG), Team Delta, have officially moved into camp with more than 600 athletes ahead of the ninth edition of the championships, set to hold in Asaba from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
The athletes are currently camped at St. Brigid’s School, Asaba, the Delta Sports Commission Hostel, and the Hockey Hostel in Okpanam, as part of the state’s intensive preparation to defend its title.
Speaking on Monday, Festus Ohwojero, an official of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), revealed that the final list of athletes and officials who will represent Team Delta at the games will be announced later this week.
“We have over 600 athletes in three different camps right now,” Ohwojero said. “Very soon, the number of athletes that will represent Team Delta in the ninth National Youth Games will be made known to the public.”
Meanwhile, Team Bayelsa has also made strong preparations, fielding a 250-athlete contingent across 10 sports at the just-concluded South-South zonal eliminations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
With the games just days away, excitement is building as Delta, Bayelsa, and other states gear up for one of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots sporting events.
