The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 following a protracted illness. His death was confirmed by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal in a statement issued by his media aide, Sulaiman Idris.
The late Emir died in Abuja on Friday morning.
Governor Lawal expressed deep sorrow, calling the monarch’s passing a personal loss and a blow to the entire state. “The late Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, was a supportive royal father and a capable leader who dedicated himself to making Zamfara State better,” he said.
Alhaji Ibrahim Bello became the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, and led the emirate with a decade of steadfast commitment and religious devotion.
Before his royal appointment, the Emir had a distinguished civil service career, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and the newly created Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal extended condolences to the Gusau Emirate, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and the bereaved family, noting that the Emir’s death marks a significant loss for the northern region and Nigeria as a whole.
