Four Nabbed for Corps Member’s Disappearance in Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the disappearance of Yahya Faruq, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Ikuru town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The corps member, posted to Mixed Secondary School in Ikuru town for his primary assignment, also worked part-time at LDM Chinese Milling Company in the area. Faruq was last seen on Monday, October 14, 2024, and has been missing for over a week.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Mustache, met with NYSC officials to provide updates on the investigation. “Four persons have been arrested and transferred to the SCID for a discreet investigation,” Iringe-Koko said.
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Edo Central Area Council, expressed deep concern over Faruq’s disappearance, describing the situation as devastating and mysterious. According to their statement, Faruq signed in for his shift at the milling company on the day he went missing but did not sign out, adding to the mystery and raising anxiety among family, friends, and colleagues.
The society also noted that the milling company returned Faruq’s bag and phone to his primary assignment at the secondary school, further deepening concerns about his safety and whereabouts.
Public Appeal for Help
The Muslim Students’ Society is appealing for public support, prayers, and assistance to locate Yahya Faruq and ensure his safe return. “Every passing moment is agonising for us,” the statement read.
When contacted, Christian Onuoha, a Public Relations Officer for the NYSC in Rivers State, declined to comment, citing his lack of authority to speak on the matter.
The police have assured that efforts are ongoing to solve the mystery of Faruq’s disappearance and have called for cooperation from the public in the investigation.
