Fuel Price Rises by 33% in July Despite Monthly Drop – NBS Report

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a 33.02 percent year-on-year increase in the average retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, for July 2025.

According to the latest Petrol Price Watch Report, the average pump price rose to N1,024.99 per litre, up from N770.54 recorded in July 2024.

On a month-on-month basis, however, petrol prices declined slightly by 1.22 percent, dropping from N1,037.66 in June 2025.

    • Jigawa – N1,107.52
    • Lagos – N1,100.29
    • Sokoto – N1,100.00
  • Lowest:
    • Zamfara – N884.63
    • Yobe – N950.60
    • Kogi – N986.67

📊 Zonal Price Analysis

  • North West: Highest average retail price – N1,035.85
  • North East: Lowest average retail price – N1,017.65

Meanwhile, checks by Vanguard revealed that petrol prices are gradually dropping at filling stations, largely due to falling global crude oil prices.

As of yesterday, crude oil traded at $63.55 per barrel, while Brent crude stood at $67.69 per barrel.

In local markets, petrol was sold between N865 and N875 per litre in Lagos, and between N890 and N910 per litre in Abuja.
