Ilubamito Family Cries Out Over Fresh Demolition in Maryland, Seeks Sanwo-Olu, Police Intervention

Members of the Aminatu Ilubamito family of Onigbongbo, Maryland, Lagos, have raised alarm once again over the fresh demolition of their properties allegedly carried out without any valid court order. They are appealing to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Inspector General of Police, and the AIG, Zone 2, to urgently intervene.

According to a statement by the family, a group of armed individuals, reportedly acting on orders, invaded and demolished multiple buildings on their land. The family insists they are the rightful owners of the properties, as confirmed by a Lagos High Court judgment.

In a petition dated March 4, 2025, their lawyer, Mr. Victor Kolade, had accused unnamed persons of malicious damage, forgery, and forceful entry. Despite these allegations, the Kuyasi Awuse family, through their counsel Mr. Yinka Muyiwa, has denied any wrongdoing in an April 16 rebuttal.

Nonetheless, the Ilubamito family maintains that their peaceful legal approach is being met with continued harassment. They claim that both families were invited by Police authorities to present their ownership documents, but only the Ilubamito family complied.

“We honoured the police invitation and presented our valid court judgment. The opposing family did not show up,” the family stated.

The disputed properties are located at:

  • No. 713, Iya Oloye Crescent, Ismail Estate, Idiroko, Onigbongbo
  • Nos. 291, 293, 295, and 297, Ikorodu Road, Idiroko Bus Stop, Maryland

The family cited Justice Adeyinka Morgan’s judgment in Suit No. AB/31/57 (Joseph Atunrase & Bamgbola Amao v. Kamil Ismail & Others), which affirmed Aminatu Ilubamito as the rightful landowner and declared any sale of the land to third parties null and void.

They also allege that individuals connected to the Kuyasi Awuse family entered the properties illegally and began demolishing existing structures without legal backing, despite clear court rulings.

“We are peace-loving. We’ve followed due process. All we ask is for the law to be respected,” they said.

The Ilubamito family is now calling on Governor Sanwo-Olu, the IGP, and other relevant authorities to uphold justice, prevent further destruction, and restore their rights to the properties.
