JAMB Registrar Admits 2025 UTME Result Errors, Orders Retake for Affected Candidates
On May 14, 2025, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, publicly acknowledged technical issues that compromised the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results for thousands of candidates.
In a press briefing at JAMB headquarters in Abuja, Prof. Oloyede confirmed that errors in the exam delivery software caused incorrect grading in 157 centres—primarily in Lagos and the South-East zones—due to a failed system patch.
Despite extensive preparations, quality assurance protocols, and multiple layers of simulation, some servers in the affected zones were not updated properly. As a result, about 380,000 candidates received inaccurate scores.
“We are deeply sorry,” Oloyede said. “I take full responsibility for this failure. Though we tested thoroughly, an error occurred. It wasn’t sabotage—it was human oversight.”
JAMB will conduct a make-up UTME for all affected candidates starting Friday, May 16, 2025. Notifications will be sent via SMS, email, and candidate profiles. Collaboration with WAEC ensures minimal disruption for students sitting for both exams.
In closing, Prof. Oloyede expressed his gratitude to stakeholders, acknowledged the distress caused, and reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to transparency and integrity.
