JAMB Reschedules UTME for 379,997 Candidates in Lagos, South-East Due to Technical Disruptions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates in Lagos State and the South-East region of Nigeria, following what the board describes as “sabotage” of the 2025 UTME.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, taking full responsibility for the widespread disruptions.
“206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos, and another 173,387 candidates from 92 centres across the South-East states were affected,” Oloyede revealed.
He added that the board will begin sending text message notifications to affected candidates starting Thursday, May 15, with new examination dates and details.
“I apologise, I take full responsibility,” the Registrar said, confirming that the board is investigating the source of the disruptions.
The 2025 UTME has faced significant backlash after over 1.5 million of the 1.9 million candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks. This development has intensified scrutiny of JAMB’s examination processes.
Recent data from the board show that only 0.63% of candidates scored above 300, while a staggering 75% scored below 200. These unprecedented low performances have sparked reactions from candidates, parents, and academic unions across the country.
JAMB has promised transparency in resolving the issues, especially for candidates whose test experience was negatively impacted by technical failures or administrative irregularities.
