Kano Community Cries Out Over Worsening Bandit Attacks, Appeals to Tinubu and Yusuf for Help

The Farin-Ruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State has raised an alarm over increasing bandit attacks, urging the Federal and State Governments to take swift action before the situation worsens.

During a press conference in Kano on Thursday, the community leader and chairman of the local security committee, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, lamented the growing insecurity, saying the attacks had led to the loss of lives, livestock, and properties.

According to Bagobiri, the affected villages include Farin-Ruwa, Kuraku, Gorantuse, Saure, and Shadu, all of which have suffered repeated invasions by armed bandits believed to be operating from neighbouring Katsina State.

“We are here to lodge our complaint to the Federal and Kano State Governments so they can come to our aid over the worsening security situation,” Bagobiri said.

He revealed that recent attacks claimed many lives, with over 1,600 cows and other valuables stolen, forcing several residents to flee their homes in search of safety.

The community leader added that bandits now invade at any hour — morning, evening, or night — without facing resistance from security operatives.

“Even yesterday and the day before, the bandits attacked again, injuring several people and stealing more than 40 cows,” he disclosed.

Bagobiri also narrated how a kidnapped resident was forced to pay ₦15 million ransom for his release, describing the situation as unbearable.

He said the attackers usually arrive in large numbers, often riding on over 50 motorcycles, and urged both the Federal and State Governments to deploy more security forces to the area.

“We are calling on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to come to our aid, as many residents have begun relocating to Kano and other places for safety,” Bagobiri appealed.

He further called on lawmakers representing Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency to intensify their efforts toward restoring peace, adding that while some interventions have been made, they remain insufficient.

Earlier this month, the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Usman Lawan Baba (aka Yellow), a notorious suspect linked to kidnapping and armed robbery in the region, including the abduction of the Village Head of Garun Babba in 2023.
