The Lagos State Government has announced a six-week traffic diversion plan to enable the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out repair works on failed asphalt sections of the Apongbon Bridge and the ramp/service lane linking Inner Marina to the bridge.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a post on X on Wednesday.

According to him, the rehabilitation works will begin on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and are expected to end on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

He added that the repairs would be executed in phases, starting with the service lane before moving to the main carriageway.

Inbound Traffic Diversion Routes

Osiyemi said sections of the affected roads would be temporarily closed to ensure motorists’ safety and facilitate smooth construction work.

For inbound traffic during the repair of the Apongbon service lane:

  • Motorists from Inner Marina should proceed to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.
  • Connect to Adeniji Adele Road.
  • Continue through Ebute Ero.
  • Use the ramp to Apongbon/Eko Bridge.

Meanwhile, traffic from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island will continue through Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge.

Diversion During Main Carriageway Repairs

When construction shifts to the inbound main carriageway:

  • Motorists from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island should ramp down at the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout by UBA.
  • Proceed through Inner Marina.
  • Connect to the Apongbon Bridge service lane.
  • Continue to Eko Bridge.

Outbound Traffic Diversion Plan

After completing inbound repairs, work will move to the outbound section.

During rehabilitation of the outbound service lane on Chapel Street:

  • Motorists from Eko Bridge to Inner Marina will be diverted through:
    • Ebute Ero Ramp
    • Adeniji Adele Road
    • Apongbon under-bridge roundabout

However, traffic heading to Outer Marina, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will still move through Apongbon Bridge.

Final Phase: Outbound Main Carriageway

During repairs on the outbound main carriageway:

  • Motorists going to Outer Marina, CMS, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will be diverted through:
    • Ebute Ero Ramp
    • Leventis
    • Outer Marina/CMS
  • Traffic heading to Inner Marina will ramp down via Chapel Street to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

Government Appeals to Motorists

The Lagos State Government appealed to road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials throughout the repair period.

Osiyemi assured residents that traffic management officers would be deployed to guide motorists and reduce inconvenience.

He added that the rehabilitation is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and infrastructure across the state.
