Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has dismissed claims that Nigerian youths have no future, expressing optimism about their potential. Speaking at a National Youth Symposium themed “Nigeria: Guiding the Youth on the Path to Self-Reliance” in celebration of his 60th birthday, Hamzat encouraged young Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the country’s challenges.

Hamzat highlighted the success of Nigerian youths in fields like technology, music, and sports, emphasizing that the internet has opened global opportunities for them to excel. He urged youths to focus on time and resource management, take advantage of opportunities, and not allow negativity to define them.

“From music to technology, Nigerian youths continue to shine globally,” Hamzat said, adding that the country’s problems are surmountable and that foreigners are still investing in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, former Lagos State University Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, stressed the importance of resourcefulness and resilience for youth success, while IT expert Dr. Stanley Muoneke encouraged youths to acquire skills in information technology to tap into emerging opportunities. Other speakers, including Lagos Commissioner for Agriculture Abisola Olusanya, highlighted efforts to improve youth access to resources, particularly in agriculture, and empower them through various initiatives.

The symposium’s key message was clear: Nigerian youth have the tools and potential to overcome challenges and build a prosperous future, provided they focus on resilience, skill development, and self-reliance.
