Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a couple and a woman for allegedly being in illegal possession of a semi-automatic pistol in the Ipaja area of Lagos.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest occurred after officers from the Ipaja Division conducted a routine, non-intrusive stop-and-search on two women. The search revealed the concealed weapon.

“One of the ladies led the officers to her husband, who was identified as the owner of the firearm,” Hundeyin revealed in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

He also highlighted the importance of the operation, stating:

“’See these police officers harassing two ladies, insisting on searching their bags…’ That would have been the narrative. But instead, a semi-automatic pistol was recovered during a simple, lawful search.”

The suspects, whose identities were withheld, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation.

Police authorities are currently probing the origin of the firearm and the reason for its possession, raising concerns about illegal weapons circulating in Lagos communities.

Hundeyin concluded, “One less illegal firearm in circulation. #LagosPoliceNG is your friend!”
