Liverpool Dominates Sevilla 4-1 in Arne Slot’s Anfield Debut; Pre-Season Finale Sets Up Premier League Kick-Off
Liverpool delivered a convincing performance in their final pre-season friendly, with a 4-1 victory over Sevilla, marking new head coach Arne Slot’s debut at Anfield. The Reds showcased a strong attacking display ahead of their Premier League opener against Ipswich.
In a match that saw Liverpool exhibit both precision and pace, they had an early scare when Stanis Idumbo missed a clear opportunity after a mistake by Jarell Quansah. However, Liverpool quickly took control of the game.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring with a stunning first-time volley on the half-hour mark. Luis Diaz doubled Liverpool’s lead with a brilliant strike into the top right corner, after cutting in from the left. The first half ended 3-0 with Diaz scoring his second goal, courtesy of an unselfish assist from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Sevilla, making nine substitutions at halftime, managed to pull one back through Peque. Yet, Liverpool restored their three-goal lead when 17-year-old Trey Nyoni scored in front of the Kop, solidifying the 4-1 scoreline.
Mohamed Salah delivered an energetic performance throughout the match and came close to adding a fifth goal in the dying moments, but his effort was thwarted by a superb save from Sevilla’s goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
Liverpool will now prepare for a behind-closed-doors fixture against Las Palmas later on Sunday before starting their Premier League season with a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich.
