A 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly murdering his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Edogiaweria, and burying her in a shallow grave in the Iyanomon area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the case was first reported on April 25, 2025, by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, who said her daughter had left home on April 20 with a friend and never returned.

Transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), detectives from the Family Unit used intelligence gathering and investigation to track and arrest Osaigbovo on June 18.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to inviting Osato to his house on April 27, where they got into an argument that allegedly turned physical. He claimed Osato fell, hit her head, and died on the spot. Fearing consequences, he transported her body in a wheelbarrow and buried it in a shallow grave near his home.

On June 20, police operatives, led by the suspect, exhumed the remains from the burial site after obtaining the necessary legal clearances.

The police say Osaigbovo will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.

“This case reflects our unwavering commitment to pursue justice and ensure that every life counts,” said PPRO Moses Yamu.

The Edo State Police Command is urging members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activity in their communities.
