Napoli Target Nigeria’s Tolu Arokodare as Lukaku Replacement

Ahmad August 20, 2025
AROKODARE

Italian champions Napoli are reportedly lining up a move for Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, as they seek to replace the injured Romelu Lukaku, PUNCH Sports Extra has gathered.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte is pushing to bring in a reliable forward after confirmation that Lukaku faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Among the shortlisted options are Arokodare and Manchester United’s young forward Rasmus Højlund.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed developments, stating:

“Napoli keep moving for a new striker after Romelu Lukaku’s injury and today made contact with Tolu Arokodare’s camp. He is valued at €20–25m by Genk after being top scorer last season in Belgium. Napoli are also exploring Rasmus Højlund as an alternative.”

Arokodare’s Impressive Form

The 24-year-old Nigerian international enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season with Belgian side Genk, netting 23 goals and 7 assists in 45 appearances. His performances earned him the Belgian Jupiler Pro League top scorer award, sparking interest from several European clubs.

Despite starting the new season mostly from the bench, Arokodare opened his scoring account in Genk’s 2-1 loss to Standard Liege earlier this month. Genk coach Thorsten Fink hinted at a possible transfer exit, remarking:

“It’s money time for Tolu. The club simply has to sell.”

What Next for Arokodare?

With Napoli keen to bolster their attacking options at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, a move for Arokodare could represent a major leap in his career and cement his status as one of Europe’s rising strikers.
