Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, widely known as Aunty Ajara, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, popularly known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.
Industry Mourns Late Actress
Teemony disclosed that the late actress received widespread support, prayers, and financial assistance from fans and colleagues across the world during her illness.
He expressed deep appreciation to everyone who contributed to her care and recovery.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion,” he said.
He also urged the public to stop sending donations to the account earlier shared for her treatment, noting that further contributions were no longer necessary.
Family Confirms Death
The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed her passing.
“The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
He thanked the public and members of the entertainment industry for their support and appealed for donations to cease.
Appeals for Support Before Her Death
About a week before her passing, Teemony and other Nollywood figures had appealed for urgent financial assistance as her condition worsened despite ongoing treatment.
They disclosed that significant funds had already been spent on her medical care, but more support was needed at the time.
Health Struggles and Public Support
Earlier reports indicated that the actress was pregnant and battling a liver-related illness, with colleagues revealing that she was placed on oxygen as her health deteriorated.
Several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, publicly rallied support for her treatment.
Her death has sparked renewed conversations about healthcare access and welfare support within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
