The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Igboayaka Igboayaka, the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), by gunmen.
The incident occurred on Saturday, February 8, 2025, when seven armed men, dressed in black, stormed his residence at Works Layout in Owerri, the Imo State capital. The gunmen, arriving in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV, forcefully took him away.
Chilos Godsent, the National President of the Igbo National Council (INC), raised the alarm in a statement on Sunday. He described the abduction as a “Neo Mafia Gestapo” operation and expressed concern over Igboayaka’s safety. According to him, all attempts to contact Igboayaka have failed as his phone lines were switched off immediately after the abduction.
Confirming the incident, Imo State Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye stated that an investigation has been launched to determine Igboayaka’s whereabouts. He also clarified that the police had not arrested him and urged anyone with useful information to come forward.
The Igbo National Council (INC) has called on the police to act swiftly in identifying the gunmen and making their findings public. The situation has raised serious concerns, and authorities are under pressure to ensure Igboayaka’s safe return.
