Slain WAEC Student: Police Say Key Witness Testimony Holding Back Final Report
The Oyo State Police Command has revealed that the absence of a crucial witness statement is delaying the final investigation report on the tragic killing of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, a WAEC candidate fatally hit by a stray police bullet in the Gbagi-Alakia area of Ibadan.
During a media briefing, the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, explained that although an interim report has been submitted, the testimony of Odunayo Alade, the victim’s father, is vital for a full report.
“The Inspector General of Police has directed a thorough investigation,” said CP Adenola. “We need the father’s statement to complete our findings.”
The incident occurred when a police officer fired a stray shot during a confrontation, reportedly involving a traffic violation. The officer involved is now in custody, and one of the vehicle’s passengers has already been interviewed.

Oyo State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dotun Oyelade, emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring justice for Kehinde Alade:
“This administration will not tolerate injustice. The governor is monitoring this case closely.”
The government also pledged to support the grieving family and promote improved police training in firearm use and civil engagement.
