PSG Beat Tottenham on Penalties to Win First-Ever UEFA Super Cup

PSG Stun Tottenham in Dramatic Comeback to Claim First-Ever UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain began their new season in style on Wednesday night, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw to lift the 2025 UEFA Super Cup in Udine, Italy.

European champions PSG looked beaten when Spurs, playing their first competitive game under new manager Thomas Frank, surged into a 2-0 lead. Micky van de Ven struck in the 39th minute before Cristian Romero doubled the advantage just after the restart.

But Luis Enrique’s side staged a late comeback, with Lee Kang-in reducing the deficit in the 85th minute and Gonçalo Ramos heading in a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The shootout began poorly for PSG as Vitinha missed their opening penalty. However, goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier denied Van de Ven, while Mathys Tel also failed to score for Spurs. Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Lee converted for PSG, with Nuno Mendes slotting home the decisive kick to secure the win.

Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro were on target from the spot for Tottenham, but it wasn’t enough to prevent PSG from lifting the Super Cup for the first time — also a historic first for any French club.

The victory adds to PSG’s impressive haul in 2025, taking their trophy count to five. The Parisians now turn their attention to Sunday’s Ligue 1 opener against Nantes, while Spurs prepare for their Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday.
