Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, have officially adopted the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta, as their temporary home ground ahead of the new season.

The decision comes as renovation works continue at their Ikenne stadium. The club made the announcement on Monday, just days before the league kicks off.

The Sky Blue Stars begin their title defense with a blockbuster fixture against last season’s runners-up, Rivers United, on Saturday.

“Due to ongoing renovations at our stadium in Ikenne, the club can confirm a temporary home ground, the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta,” Remo Stars said in a statement.
“Come through, make some noise, and let’s turn Abeokuta into a fortress together. A return home is however imminent.”

It is yet to be confirmed how long the NPFL champions will play in Abeokuta. After the opener, Remo Stars will travel to Owerri to face newly-promoted Kun-Khalifat, before returning “home” to host Warri Wolves.

The team may also play the CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg clash against Comoros’ US Zilimadjou in Abeokuta between September 19 and 21. The winner will set up a showdown with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

Remo Stars clinched their historic first NPFL title in the 2024/25 season with 71 points, finishing seven clear of Rivers United, after narrowly missing out in the previous two campaigns.
