Russia to Ban Foreign-Made Military Clothing from 2026
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new decree prohibiting the use of foreign-made clothing and gear for the country’s armed forces, effective January 1, 2026.
Under the directive, all uniforms and related items for the Russian Armed Forces must be produced by companies operating manufacturing facilities within Russia. The measure covers a wide range of military clothing and gear, including uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, footwear, equipment, and sanitary items.
By 2027, the regulation will extend to the fabrics and knitted materials used in production, which must also be manufactured domestically. The move is part of a broader strategy to eliminate reliance on foreign-made clothing and materials for military needs.
Military clothing and equipment in Russia are procured through the state defence order system, and the new policy reinforces Moscow’s push for self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing.
