Brasília, August 25, 2025 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília, calling for a new era of diplomatic and economic partnership between Nigeria and Brazil.

The meeting, held at the Planalto Palace, was described by Tinubu as a renewal of the “historic relationship” between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s largest nation.

In a post on his official X handle, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in agriculture, energy, trade, and cultural exchange with Brazil.

“Today’s engagement marks the renewal of the historic relationship between Nigeria and Brazil. I look forward to working with President Lula to deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy, trade, and culture, towards building a future of shared prosperity across the Atlantic,” he said.

Tinubu, who arrived from Los Angeles, was received at the Brasília Air Base by senior Brazilian officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, joined the welcoming delegation, alongside other ministers, heads of key government agencies, and private sector leaders who later convened with the President at his hotel.

An official welcoming ceremony, complete with full military honours, is taking place at the Planalto Palace. Tinubu is also expected to hold a series of bilateral talks and witness the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding cooperation between both countries.

The visit underscores Nigeria’s renewed push for stronger international partnerships that drive investment, technology transfer, and cultural exchange.
