Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion and record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, is set to commence her title defence today at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary. The race is scheduled to begin at 6:12 pm, as outlined in the championship’s event schedule.
Last Thursday, the Athletics Integrity Unit granted Amusan permission to defend her title after an appeals panel determined that she had not violated anti-doping regulations, despite missing three whereabouts tests within a 12-month period. At 26 years old, Amusan is positioned to compete in lane four during the first round’s fifth and final heat, where she will face strong competition from Olympic bronze medalist Megan Tapper of Jamaica.
Also participating in this heat are athletes Maayke Tjin-a-lim, Michelle Jenneke, Yumi Tanaka, Natalia Christofi, Ebony Morrison, and Nika Glojnaric. In the same stage last year, Amusan initiated her remarkable season by recording 12.40 seconds in her heat, establishing a new African record. She then achieved a stunning 12.12-second run, surpassing Kendra Harrison’s 2016 world record of 12.20 seconds, en route to capturing the 100m hurdles title at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.
Amusan secured a historic gold medal in the final race with a wind-aided 12.06-second performance, becoming Nigeria’s first world outdoor champion. Although she faced provisional suspension last month due to missed whereabouts tests, the Athletics Integrity Unit ultimately cleared her to compete in Budapest.
The Disciplinary Tribunal’s majority decision concluded that Amusan did not commit an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) involving three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month timeframe. Expressing her relief, Amusan affirmed her readiness to defend her title, emphasizing her commitment to clean sport and appreciating the support of her peers.

To my Five Fingers; God is the greatest & I genuinely appreciate y’all for the support,” Amusan stated following her clearance.
