Nigerian troops stationed in the South-South region have made significant gains in the fight against oil theft, seizing 602,200 litres of stolen crude oil and 64,900 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). During the week-long operations, they also recovered 12,690 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with the total value of these recoveries estimated at N793 million.

The Defence Headquarters, through its Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, announced the success of the operation on Friday, adding that 18 suspects involved in oil theft were arrested. Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 44 illegal refining sites, along with 4 dugout pits, 48 boats, and 156 drums.

“Troops have effectively prevented oil theft valued at N793,257,250,” Buba stated.

Meanwhile, counter-terrorism operations across the Northern regions of Nigeria saw the neutralization of 118 terrorists and the rescue of 96 hostages. The troops also recovered a variety of weapons, including 43 AK-47 rifles, and arrested 97 individuals linked to terrorist activities.

These operations highlight the military’s ongoing efforts to secure the country and combat illegal activities across different regions.
