Boko Haram Landmine Kills Two Soldiers, Eight Civilians on Maiduguri-Damboa Road
Two Nigerian soldiers have been confirmed dead following a devastating landmine explosion planted by Boko Haram terrorists along the volatile Maiduguri-Damboa road in Borno State.
The attack, which occurred at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday near Nyeliri, a deserted village in Konduga Local Government Area, also claimed the lives of eight passengers and left dozens injured. The explosive device was reportedly detonated under a military escort convoy, triggering panic among travelers who fled in all directions.
Despite being under daily military surveillance, the Maiduguri-Damboa route remains a deadly corridor frequently targeted by insurgents.
Tuesday’s tragedy follows a spate of violent incidents in the region. On Friday, April 25, six charcoal vendors were murdered in the Mulgoi area, and on Sunday, April 27, two farmers were killed while clearing land in preparation for the rainy season along Kanama Road in Damboa LGA.
The District Head of Damboa, Alhaji Lawan Maina, confirmed the latest attack and expressed deep concern. “Two soldiers were killed,” he said, describing the spike in Boko Haram attacks as both alarming and unrelenting.
Reacting to the ongoing insecurity, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) urged the Federal Government to urgently equip the military with more advanced weaponry and support systems to combat the growing threat.
“The killings and destruction must end,” Senator Ndume stated, calling for decisive military action against the insurgents.
